Tactile Sensing with Magnets
The pioneering collaborative research on magnetics-based tactile sensing is led by Dr Lorenzo Jamone within the Centre for Advanced Robotics. The work started in 2005 and unfolded at different institutions including including University of Genoa and IIT in Italy, Instituto Superior Tecnico in Portugal, and Waseda University in Japan. This innovative research has contributed to the development of tactile sensors for robotics that have now been successfully brought to the market since 2018 by the Japanese company, Xela Robotics (https://www.xelarobotics.com/).
