Exploring Staff Perceptions of AI in Higher Education

Based on findings presented at the Society for Research into Higher Education (SRHE) International Research Conference 2024, this stand delves into academic staff's understanding, confidence, and competencies in adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) using the Technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) framework. Data from 106 educators across disciplines highlight low AI adoption rates, with most usage limited to basic tasks. A key finding is the need for training and guidance in Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK) to integrate AI into teaching effectively. By addressing challenges and enablers, this research contributes to the limited literature on AI adoption among academic staff and underscores the importance of a holistic approach to AI in education.
