Rainer Klages, a Reader in Applied Mathematics in the Centre for Complex Systems, recently published two news articles on exciting insights into the physical behavior of biological systems. The first article is a Viewpoint in the Physics Magazine of the American Physical Society and presents a result by Sorkin et al. that aims at generalizing the second law of thermodynamics to living systems. The second article is a New and Notable in the Biophysical Journal published by the CellPress group. It discusses a data-driven approach to analyzing experimental cell migration data, which was developed by Klimek et al.

These news pieces are invited contributions that publicize and explain significant scientific advances to a broader audience, including the general physics and biology communities as well as interested laypeople.
