Interests

Calcium influx triggered by electrical excitation, regulated by Voltage-Activated Calcium Channels, is the fast and ubiquitous chemical signal in excitable tissues like the brain, heart, and muscle. Our group investigates the structure-function relationship, interactions, and cellular trafficking of neuronal and cerebrovascular Calcium Channel proteins. We use a combination of electrophysiology, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry and biochemical techniques to investigate how the assembly of different protein subunits regulates the channels' biological activity and the mechanisms of action of drugs targeting them. We use both heterologous cell expression systems and primary neurons to investigate the channel function and cellular trafficking.
